1,400 Militants Killed In Recent Weeks: Officials

The ministries of defense and interior said Thursday that since the beginning of the Persian year, more than 1,400 militants have been killed across the country and that the Taliban's summer offensive is being defeated.

According to security officials, the terrorist's main bases are located in Pakistan.

Ministry spokesmen said the security forces' Shafaq operation, which is ongoing across the country, is one of the security forces' biggest operations to date.

According to the officials the Shafaq operation is being carried out to restore security in insecure parts of the country and currently large-scale operations are under way in more than 10 provinces across the country.

The Afghan Interior Ministry said that in addition to the elimination of 1,489 terrorists, 853 others were wounded and 119 were arrested.

"The enemies morale is now very weak and in 50 days we were able to eliminate many of them. Since 20 March 2016 to 11 May 2016 about 1,489 enemies were killed and a large number of others were either wounded or arrested," said MoI spokesman Sediq Sediqqi.

Meanwhile Defense Ministry spokesman Dawlat Waziri said: "Just today the enemy lost 140 fighters. We have 22 operations which are all planned and offensive operations. When we are planning obviously we take an offensive stance and enemies suffer a lot".

Meanwhile, there is conce among the public that the terrorists have moved their focus to the northe and northeaste provinces especially Badakhshan and Kunduz provinces.

"The insurgents have a strong presence in Badakhshan and even we can say that 10 to 12 districts of Badakhshan province are getting more insecure day by day and our two districts are under Taliban control," said Safiullah Muslim, a MP for Badakhshan.

Afghan security forces have in the past two months conducted 620 small operations in different parts of the country. But activities of terrorists in insecure parts of the country is still a big challenge for residents in these insecure areas.
