Yakatoot, a local cricket team from Kabul, and the NATO cricket team played a friendly match in Kabul on Sunday – with the local team beating the foreign contingency.
NATO batted first and set a target of 83 runs in 13 overs but the Kabul squad completed the target in just 11 overs - losing three wickets.
Participants at the match said the event was crucial in bringing the people and NATO troops in Afghanistan closer.
"Matches like this are very important to enhance relations between military men and civilians," said Hekmatullah, a member of Yakatoot Cricket Team from Kabul.
"We held the match in order to improve people's relations with NATO troops in Afghanistan," said Mohammad Tariq Khalid, coach of the team.
"I think the development of cricket in Afghanistan has come a long way in about six years - that it is really been getting strong, I am very impressed with how the Afghan national team performed at the World Cup. It was amazing that they beat the West Indies," said NATO's coach.
A British general who attended the match meanwhile said: "It is a good experience to play against the Afghans since cricket is a popular sport here. So that was very great."
