Kabul Blast Death Toll Rises To 64

The ministry of interior on Wednesday revised the casualty toll from Tuesday's deadly Kabul blast, putting the death toll at 64 and wounded at 347.

MoI spokesman Sediq Sediqq said: "It is with regret to announce that 64 innocent Afghans were killed and 347 more wounded in yesterday's KBL terrorist attack."

A suicide bomber detonated his explosive-laden truck near an intelligence facility in Pul-e-Mahmood Khan area in Kabul city minutes after 9am on Tuesday.

After blowing open the perimeter wall, at least one other insurgent stormed the facility firing on security forces inside the compound – a unit tasked with protecting VIPs.

Security forces immediately cordoned off the area but a gun battle lasted for over two hours until the situation was brought under control.

However, hundreds of people within a one kilometer radius were injured and dozens killed. Widespread damage was also caused to buildings and houses in the area.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
