NUG Leaders Asked To Fulfill Commitments

The Council of Protection and Stability in Afghanistan on Tuesday called on the National Unity Govement's (NUG) leaders to fulfill their promises, waing that unless they do so the new party will announce its stance towards govement – after consultations with the people.

"Members of the council had a meeting today [Tuesday] where they decided to push govement to implement its commitments," said the council spokesman Massoud Trishtwal.

He added: "The NUG's activities are clear in the agreement signed between its leaders therefore they have to do what they committed."

Meanwhile, Mohammad Natiqi, a member of the commission for monitoring the political agreement, said the NUG is committed to implementing its commitments mentioned in the agreement.

"There is no delay in implementing the political agreement, bringing reforms in electoral bodies and holding the Loya Jirga [Grand Assembly]. Govement is committed to addressing its commitments mentioned in the agreement," he added.

After signing the agreement, the NUG leaders agreed to bring reforms to electoral bodies, hold parliamentary elections as well as a Loya Jirga. However, some experts have said they believe that little has been done by govement to fulfill their promises.
