Richard Olson, Special U.S Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, has embarked on a two-day visit to India to hold talks with top officials on a range of key issues, including India's role in promoting stability and prosperity in the region.

According to Indian media, Olson will hold discussions on promoting the Afghan-led, Afghan-owned peace and reconciliation process during his visit starting Thursday, the U.S State Department said.

"The visit is also an opportunity for U.S officials to express appreciation for India's support for the people and govement of Afghanistan, including trade ties, security and development assistance, as well as India's key role in promoting a more stable and prosperous region," it said.
