Steady downpours have continued throughout the day in Kabul with temperatures also dropping to 5 Celsius (°C).
Head of Afghanistan's Meteorological Department Sayed Reza Musawi said the rain will continue until Friday and the temperatures will fall further if the rain continues.
"The rainfall recorded was 13 mm over the past 24 hours in Kabul and its northe parts," he told TOLOnews.
Meanwhile a number of Kabul residents complained about flooded streets in the capital.
According to residents, some shops were flooded by the rain which has continued unabated since the early hours of Wednesday moing.
The worst affected areas are Khairkhana in PD4 and the central parts of the city.
Streets throughout the city were however under water – some more so than others.
One resident said: "It is like a sea. The roads are no more roads; they are full of water. We cannot drive. Most of the cars were stopped; they could not move on."
"Lots of shops and houses were damaged due to the rainfall and the poor canalization system in the city. It is all because of the neglect of the [Kabul] municipality and the incumbent govement," another resident said.
This comes after meteorological organizations waed the public on Tuesday to brace themselves for heavy rain in parts of Afghanistan over the next few days.
Officials from Afghanistan's meteorological department waed people in the northe areas to take necessary precautions.
Musawi said on Tuesday: "We anticipate that we will have heavy rain in the upcoming days which will be across parts of the country and also in Kabul."
"This rain may cause floods in the country," he said adding they have sent their reports to alert disaster management organizations.
He said the department had also informed govement about the impending rain storm.
Accuweather.com meanwhile stated that a pause in the stormy weather is expected early next week; however, the weather patte through the end of March will bring the threat of additional rainfall to areas from Afghanistan to northe India.
