Baghlan police said on Friday troops have broken through the Taliban's defense line in Dand-e Ghori and have almost cleared the area of insurgents.
Baghlan police said that after days of fighting, the security forces finally broke through the Taliban's defense line and that the troops are now moving forward, towards the center of Dand-e Ghori.
Abdul Rashid Bashir, Baghlan police security department head, said that at the moment most parts of the area have been cleared of insurgents and that the area is now controlled by govement forces.
"Areas are under security forces' control and the Afghanistan flag was raised and the Taliban flag brought down. At the moment a clearance operation is going on but the big challenge ahead of forces are land mines. During the operation one Ranger vehicle and weapons were confiscated from the Taliban. The operation will continue until the area has been fully cleared," said Bashir.
Meanwhile a number of residents said govement should not let the security of these areas deteriorate again.
"We are very happy and satisfied form the operation and from our security forces," one of the Dand-e Ghori residents said.
