Sharif separately held meetings with US military leaders, including Chief of Joint Staff Gen Joseph Dunford and Resolute Support Mission Commander Gen. John W. Nicholson.
The focus of discussion during the meetings was regional security, border management and operational coordination in the Shawal operation to check the terrorists trying to flee across the border into Afghanistan.
The officials reviewed and expressed their optimism over positive outcomes from the upcoming peace talks through ongoing efforts by the four nations - Afghanistan, Pakistan, China and the US.
Raheel reiterated his support to the Afghan leadership for peace and stability in Afghanistan.
The Afghan leadership acknowledged the Pakistan Army's efforts and achievements in the war against terrorism and its role for bringing peace and stability in the region.
Before this, the U.S Secretary of State John Kerry in a meeting with Pakistan's Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz called for regional countries' cooperation in achieving peace and stability in Afghanistan.
