The Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) are set to launch a massive counter-insurgency operation in the Nad Ali district of southe Helmand province, days after insurgents infiltrated the area and seized control of several fronts in the volatile district.
The development comes amid heavy clashes between the ANSF and Taliban in the region.
"We are here to assess our deployments and forces and evaluate their morale, we are confident about their morale, we are also trying to take control of the highway; the security situation is better now," said Aqa Noor Kentoz, Helmand police chief.
"We are fully prepared and all necessary arrangements have been taken, the mission will start shortly and we will attack the enemy," an Afghan National Army ANA commander in Helmand said.
Reports from the warfront state that the ANSF has been able to regain a large area of land taken by the Taliban.
"We have cleared an area of six kilometers and inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy, but fighting still continues," ANA commander Basir Andarabi said.
