The Indian embassy in Kabul on Sunday night honored Afghan athletes who won medals for their nation in the 12th South Asian Championships.
Addressing the Afghan sportsmen and women, Indian Ambassador to Afghanistan Manpreet Vohra said that insurgency will not create obstructions in terms of Afghanistan's development.
"Terrorism and threats never succeed to halt the way for Afghanistan toward development. The Afghan sportsmen have proved their abilities in the competitions," ambassador Manpreet said.
Athletes from various fields on Sunday gathered at the Indian embassy guest house. Among them were seven medalists who hoisted the national flag in various sports at the championships.
Meanwhile, the Afghanistan National Olympic Committee has accused the govement of ignoring athletes.
"We are determined to gain more titles for our country, but for that we need the support of govement and that the govement remains aware of our situation," Olympic medalist Ruhullah Nekpa said.
"I defeated three of my rivals and made it to the finals and won a gold medal and I am so proud of that," Afghan female taekwondo athlete Sumayya Ghulami said.
"Govement has not done enough for sportsmen and not even a single contact by govement officials was made during our trip to India and all expenses were paid by the Indian govement," Robina Jalali, deputy head of the National Olympic Committee said.
The Indian govement by honoring and supporting the Afghan athletes has shown it's ardent support of the country. This is in addition to its military and economic aid.
