Govement Urged To Gain Inteational Trust Ahead Of Warsaw Summit

As Afghanistan prepares to attend the Warsaw Summit in July, a number of critics and MPs called on govement to gain the inteational community's trust ahead of the conference.

"The Afghan govement should make better use of such summits. Transparent and efficient management of money donated by the inteational community is crucial to gaining world-wide trust. It is also essential for continuation of financial aid to the country," said Kabul University lecturer Nasrullah Stanikzai.

MP Seddiq Ahmad Osmani said the monetary aid from donor countries should be managed well by the state. "Afghanistan will not retu with gains from such conferences as long as it does not fulfill its commitments," he added.

Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah told a Council of Ministers meeting on Monday he expected inteational community to announce a new tranche of support to Afghanistan. The Afghan govement will, in tu, reaffirm its commitments to the world in Warsaw.

"We are preparing for Warsaw Summit. This conference will also ensure continued support by NATO member states for the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF)," he said.

He gave the assurance that the Afghan govement remained committed to strengthening and enhancing its reform efforts.

Abdullah added: "We have good commitments of future support from our partners. This is a good sign as we progress towards peace and stability in the country."

The Warsaw Summit will focus on three main objectives:

• Continued funding the ANDSF.

• There would be about 10,000 U.S. troops in the country and NATO is expected to contribute another 6,000.

• NATO and Afghanistan will issue a joint statement, reiterating the organization's commitment to the country without giving any deadlines.
