Omar Mateen, the suspect who reportedly killed 50 people and wounded 53 others in a gay nightclub in Orlando City in Florida, worked as a security guard and had been on the FBI's radar at one time.

Mateen, who was bo to Afghan immigrant parents in the U.S, was bo in New York city 29 years ago.

The Afghan Interior Ministry said Mateen has never been to Afghanistan.

U.S federal police said Mateen called 911 minutes before the attack and announced his allegiance to Daesh.

Mateen was at one stage married to Sitara Yusufi but according to U.S media reports she said he not only isolated her from her family but he also beat her.

After four months of marriage her family rescued her.

Commenting on her immediate reaction to finding out the shooter was her ex-husband, she said: "I was really shocked. I cried. It was shocking to me as the attacker had a kind of connection to me once in my life."

According to reports, Mateen had bought a number of guns.

Mateen was investigated by FBI twice over ties to suspected terrorists. But on both occasions the FBI found nothing to link him to terrorism.

Meanwhile, analysts said this incident will surely have an impact on the lives of Afghans in the United States.

"Those who have committed this have extremist ideologies. They have no connection with today's regional and inteational policies. This is the outcome of mental diseases," said Malik Setez, an inteational researcher.

"There are a number of media that have programs that kind of spread extremism. This affects the mind and ideology of a number of people. This creates a negative thought against the country where people live, where they are citizens," said Tahir Hashemi, a university lecturer.
