The govement has welcomes the opportunity offered at the fourth meeting of the Quadrilateral Coordination Group (QCG) which held in Kabul Tuesday to hold direct peace talks with Taliban groups, President Office said in a statement.
The statement said that the peace talks, scheduled for the first week of March in Islamabad, offer Taliban and other armed groups a renewed opportunity to end the violence.
"We call on all armed groups to use this opportunity to choose a life free of war and violence, which brings nothing but destruction, disaster and death," it said.
"In pursuit of the urgent goal of bringing peace to our people, the govement of Afghanistan has repeatedly invited Taliban groups and other anti-govement armed groups to abandon violence and choose a peaceful life by retuing to the society and helping rebuild their country. Now, with this renewed opportunity, we again invite Taliban and other Afghan armed groups to join in the direct peace talks, "according to the statement.
In the statement emphasized that the war does nothing but damage lives and the shared prosperity of our nation that has already suffered far too long.
"Wars are also the major cause of poverty, underdevelopment and socio-economic misery. We hope that the leaders of Taliban and other armed groups take advantage of this opportunity to opt for a peaceful life." It said.
It states that while the people and govement of Afghanistan believe that peace talks are the surest way to reduce violence, we remain prepared to strongly defend and protect the nation and its achievements against those who seek to continue to fight.
"We are deeply grateful to the United States and China for their continued support of the steps that Afghanistan and Pakistan are taking to advance peace in Afghanistan, and throughout the region," the statement said.
This comes while, Russia is also urging the Taliban to start direct talks with the Afghan govement and hopes that such negotiations will begin soon, Interfax news agency quoted a senior Russian diplomat as saying on Wednesday.
"We are urging the Taliban to do this and we hope that they (talks) will start as soon as possible to prevent the beginning of a new 'combat season'," said Zamir Kabulov, the Russian president's special envoy to Afghanistan.
Kabulov was Idea on a statement by the Afghan govement's chief executive, Abdullah Abdullah, this month that Afghanistan expects to restart peace talks with the Taliban within six months, pinning hopes on factions within the Islamist militant group which might be ready to give up violence.
On Wednesday, the National Security Advisor Mohammad Hanif Atmar waed opposition groups that they should join the peace process as the doors for peace will not be open forever and that if they continue to fight the govement they will face the full wrath of the military.
"Our request is that Afghan Taliban uses this opportunity. Peace doors will not remain open to the armed opposition forever and if they do not join the peace process we will ask three countries to take action against them," said Atmar.
He said that govement had approached Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, the head of Hezbe-Islami Party, to join the peace process. However, the Afghanistan govement does not care about the person or the Taliban faction's identity but only in the results of talks and an end to war, he added.
