An Australian woman was reportedly kidnapped at gunpoint in Qala-e-Fatullah in Kabul's PD10 on Saturday night. The woman, who has not been named, is believed to work for an NGO. According to eyewitnesses, the roads in the area where the kidnapping took place were immediately cordoned off by security forces. No details have however been released. Aid worker Kerry Jane Wilson, who was abducted in Jalalabad in Nangarhar province in April, was rescued in a National Security of Directorate (NDS) operation on Sunday night, an NDS statement read. "Kerry Jane Wilson was rescued safely during an NDS special operation in Nangarhar province," the statement added. According to the statement several suspects have been detained in connection with the kidnapping and investigations are underway. Australian Foreign Affairs Minister Julie Bishop also confirmed early Monday in a statement that Wilson, who was abducted in Afghanistan in April this year, had been freed."She is now safe and well. Ali Haidar Gilani, the son of Pakistan's former prime minister Yusuf Reza Gilani, was rescued during a joint U.S-Afghan operation in Ghazni on Tuesday moing. Gilani had been held hostage for three years by a suspected al-Qaeda-affiliated group. The Afghan ambassador to Pakistan Omar Zakhilwal called the former prime minister on Tuesday moing with the good news. According to Zakhilwal, the victim's father "was ecstatically delighted as expected and grateful of President (Ashraf) Ghani's personal attention to his son's safe release." Zakhilwal said Gilani senior also thanked the security forces for bringing a "happy ending to a dreadful family saga". Reports indicate that Gilani is in good health but will first undergo a medical examination before retuing home. Gilani, 29, was seized by suspected militants in a hail of gunfire on the outskirts of the city of Multan in Punjab province on May 9, 2013, two days before the national election in which he was campaigning. Gunmen on a motorbike opened fire before abducting Gilani in a black Honda car. His secretary and a bodyguard were killed and four people wounded in the incident. Nangarhar local officials said on Thursday a foreign woman was kidnapped by unknown gunmen at about 5am local time on Thursday in Jalalabad. According to officials the kidnapping took place when unknown gunmen entered DACAAR, a consortium of Danish NGOs, and kidnapped the woman. "The woman without coordination with security institutions traveled from Kabul to Nangarhar and we were not aware of this. She was kidnapped by unknown gunmen early today but it is not clear who kidnapped her or where she was taken," said Attaullah Khogyani, the provincial goveor's spokesman. Meanwhile provincial civil society activists have appealed to security institutions to do everything possible to secure the release of the woman. "There are reports that kidnappers were in military uniform. There are many check posts in Jalalabad city and the question is how did the abductors get past those check posts? We want responsible institutions to put serious efforts into securing the release of the foreign woman," said Abdul Rahman Mawen, a civil society activist. The woman had reportedly gone to Jalalabad to check on a project in Nangarhar. Officials say she left Kabul for Jalalabad on Wednesday.
